Slot car Racing is a fun hobby to do with friends and families. They are miniature car models that are raced on tracks. Casual groups of people to full scale organized associations participate in this sport. The cars are raced on tracks built guided by grooves in the tracks. You do not have to build slot cars many are sold for new hobbyists to buy and the tracks too. . Some people build their own models and tracks and others use what is manufactured by the companies.
Groups that meet to perform slot car racing range from casual to very serious . Much like model railroading slot car racing can become an expensive and time consuming hobby. Slot car racing became very popular in the 1960′s when the sales of the models and tracks reached 500 million annually. The largest slot cars sold are 7 to 8 inches in size. These are used in commercial and association clubs for racing. The smaller size cars are often used by home slot car racers.
Tracks for those that race at home are usually made from injection molded plastic. These track section are often snapped together to form the track. The tracks that are built for competitions are usually made by hand. They are made of chipboard or fiberboard with a continuous smooth track for the cars to run on. Competition tracks have many twists and turns for the slot cars to make. Most slot car racing is powered by electricity or battery operated equipment.
