What Exactly Is Slot Car Racing
Slot car racing has been an American pastime for at least sixty years, and it has been popular in places such as Britain for equally long. It was made popular during the 1950′s, but slot racing was created long before that time. Many people have never heard of slot racing, especially those born after the 1970′s when slot racing started to decline, but a few may remember slot racing’s slight recovery in the late 1980′ s to early 1990′s. For those who have never heard of slot racing, it is the racing of miniature powered cars on a track. The track that the cars are raced along, normally has slots to keep the cars in line during the race, thus the name slot racing.
During slot racing’s glory days, there were numerous places to slot race similar to the bowling alleys of today. Slot racing competitions were held, and prizes given to winners. There were professional slot racers, and slot racing organizations. Several magazines that focused on slot racing were printed. Cars and tracks were also purchased for home use.
Today slot cars and tracks can be purchased from retailers, and slot racing is still done as a hobby. Occasionally, slot car racing competitions are held.
